Beechwood Hall in Franklin, Tennessee is a property with historic significance and tied in with country music royalty. However, it may be torn down.

Beechwood was originally built in the 1860s for H. G. W. Mayberry and his wife Sophronia Hunter Mayberry. The 800-acre estate withstood the Civil War and became “one of the most important intact Civil War-era properties,” according to Country Rebel.

In 1951, it was purchased by country music great, Hank Williams Sr. His 1948 song “A Mansion on the Hill” may have been the reason for the purchase.
Unfortunately, he never had a chance to live on the estate and died two years later.

The property would later be acquired by two country music legends, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The music video for “I Need You” was filmed there.

An investment group recently purchased the home.
They had plans to restore it but deemed it “unsalvageable” and now plan to build a new house on the property, according to Lovely Franklin.

Beechwood is listed on the National Register of Historical Properties. The home itself is over 6,800 square feet and features both Greek Revival and Italian designs.

There is a petition to save the estate.
